Clarksboro
St. Peter's
Episcopal Church
Our History
Founded in 1770 and incorporated in 1835, St. Peter’s Protestant Episcopal Church of Berkeley at Clarksborough was the last of twenty parishes established in the colony of New Jersey prior to the Revolutionary War by the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts - the missionary arm of the Church of England. We were included in the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior on August 11, 1977. Our campus encompasses five parish properties situated along Kings Highway in East Greenwich Township. These include our 1846 church building, the Green House, and the former Sexton’s residence located in Clarksboro as well as our Rectory and colonial-era cemetery in Mt. Royal.
Despite our long history as a flagship of religious and civic activity in Clarksboro and the surrounding areas, St. Peter’s is not a musty museum. We are a vibrant, thriving Church of the Episcopal Faith in the Diocese of New Jersey. Come join us and be a part of our future. We welcome All Sorts and Conditions of Persons working together to further the gospel of Christ.
Our Mission
St. Peter’s Church is a worshiping community of Christians responding to God’s call to know Christ, to love Christ, and to serve Christ in our time and in this place.
We are called, collectively and individually, to proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ, seeking and serving Christ in all persons, striving for justice and peace among all people, and respecting the dignity of every human being.
As faithful stewards of God’s bounty, we pledge ourselves to an ever-deepening personal commitment to use our resources rightly in the service of others and to His honor and glory. We invite all persons to join us in giving themselves to this ministry of God’s work in our community and His world.
